Summary
The Triple Gem is the heart of Buddhism and is held to be permanently unstained. The question is why that should be so.
The Buddha is pure because he is wholly free of defilement — like the sun, whose light of wisdom no cloud can block.
The Dhamma is pure because it is a truth that does not change with the age, stands above every era, and can be verified by the practitioner directly.
The Sangha in the Triple Gem means the noble Sangha, from stream-enterer to arahant, who having realised do not fall back into delusion.
It follows that the conduct of those who have not realised, whatever it may be, cannot tarnish the purity of the Triple Gem.

The question is "why", not "whether"
Many already believe it but cannot say on what grounds.
Buddha: nothing left to stain
The sun-and-cloud image locates the obstruction outside, never in the light itself.
Dhamma: true independently of the era
And more importantly, verifiable by oneself without anyone’s endorsement.
Sangha here means the noble Sangha
This is the key to the whole argument: it does not mean everyone wearing the robe.
The unawakened cannot degrade what is pure
Scandal about individuals is therefore a separate matter from the purity of the Triple Gem.
